How to Play Word Snaps Daily
No account required to play
A new secret word every day, shared by everyone
Daily leaderboard ranked by fewest guesses
Your progress is saved automatically
Goal
Guess the secret word in as few tries as possible.
Ranking
Every guess gets a rank number. Rank 1 means you guessed the secret word exactly. The higher the number, the less related your guess is to the secret word - there's no upper limit, so don't worry about how high the number climbs at first.

ocean1
If the secret word were ocean: computer is unrelated, water is warmer, sea is nearly there, and ocean solves it at rank 1.
What the board looks like
Your guesses stack up under the input, lowest rank first, so the word you're closest to stays at the top. On Easy, revealed hints sit in their own panel above them.
DesktopPhone
Strategy
There's no "hot/cold" hint beyond the rank number itself. Try a variety of words and watch which ones bring the rank down - words related to your lowest-ranked guess so far are usually a good next try.
Daily Challenge vs. Casual
Daily Challenge is the ranked mode - everyone gets the same secret word each day, and solving it (fewer guesses is better) places you on that day's leaderboard. It's always played on Hard, so every player's result is directly comparable - if you get stuck without getting close, you'll be offered a hint every 10 guesses (every 5 for your first few solves). Casual is unranked - you get your own secret word and can start a brand new one whenever you like via the "New Word" button, with no effect on your Daily Challenge rank or the leaderboard. Stuck on a casual word? Click Reveal Word to give up and see the answer.
Difficulty (Casual only)
Hard is the standard experience described above - no extra help. Easy automatically reveals a word closely related to the secret word every 5 guesses, without needing to ask for it - a nudge in the right direction if you get stuck. Pick Hard or Easy when starting a casual word - it's locked in for that round, and you'll choose again the next time you start a new word.
Versus
Versus is head-to-head - you and an opponent share the same secret word and take turns guessing it, one guess per turn, until someone reaches rank 1. Any of the three ways to start a match - Challenge a Friend, Invite by Link, or Find Random Opponent - opens a short setup step first, where you can turn on hints (shown to both players automatically every 10 guesses combined, until either of you gets close) and optionally cap the match at a set number of combined guesses, with a choice of whoever's closest winning when that cap hits or the match simply ending in a draw. For a random match, whichever of you actually opens a fresh search decides the settings - joining someone already waiting just takes theirs. You can have several matches - sent, received, and in progress - open at the same time. If nothing comes to mind on your turn, click Pass to hand the turn to your opponent without spending a guess. Matches against a guest (someone who isn't signed in) play out as normal but are just for fun - they don't count toward anyone's record on the leaderboard.
You can switch between classic and compare view. When in the compare view, users can see what the other user has guessed (right side) compared to your guess (left side).
The Versus Leaderboard ranks players by total wins, with the number of distinct opponents faced as a tiebreaker. If a match sits on the same turn for 24 hours with no guess, whoever's turn it was forfeits and their opponent wins.

Guess the secret word. Every guess gets ranked by how close it is - rank 1 means you got it exactly, and it climbs the further off-topic your guess is. There's a new word every day in Daily Challenge.
Casual mode lets you cycle through as many secret words as you want, with no effect on your Daily Challenge rank.
Challenge someone to a head-to-head match - you both guess the same secret word, taking turns, and whoever nails it first wins. You can have several matches going at once.

About Word Snaps Daily
Word Snaps Daily - or just Word Snaps
- is a free online word-guessing game in the style of
Contexto, with no downloads and no account required to play.
There's one secret word, and every guess you make comes back with a rank: rank 1 is the word itself,
and the higher the number, the less your guess has to do with it. There's no upper limit, so a wild
first guess ranking in the thousands is normal - you close in by trying words related to whatever
has ranked lowest so far.
Daily Challenge is one word a day, the same for everyone, with a leaderboard ranked
by fewest guesses. Casual gives you unlimited words whenever you want to practise,
with no effect on your daily rank. Versus is head-to-head: you and an opponent share
one secret word and take turns guessing until someone reaches rank 1 - challenge a friend by name,
send an invite link, or get matched with a random opponent.
